A crisp chill in the air, a beautiful foliage of different colored leaves dancing across the ground, and jack ‘o lanterns on doors steps. Fall is a wonderful season and it is even better in Rockville, Maryland. The historical landscape is right in the thick of it all with countless shops, and it is just a small trip away from the Washington D.C. area. Grab your family and check out everything that is happening in this rustic province.
1. Enchanted Forest Theme Park
If you want to stick with a Halloween feel, then the Enchanted Forest is an attraction you need to check out. The rundown park was actually made in 1955, a week after Disneyland launched. Scenes from Cinderella, Alice Wonderland, and many storybook classics have scenes throughout the park.
You can stroll through Cinderella’s castle and ride magical teacups, but the park eventually could not compete with other parks opening near by with high tech rollercoasters. The park inevitably met its end in 1989. The eastern half of the park still has the remains of some rides and attractions that can be eerie to walk through. Look out for the decrepit gingerbread men that stick out of the ground! It is located near Rockville at Ellicott City.
2. Rockville Town Center
There are always great deals and events going on in the Rockville Town Center where you will feel safe and part of the community. Get some exercise in at the beginning of the day with Fitness on the Square. The exercises done day-to-day vary, but it is always from 10-11am hosted by Gold’s Gym.
Get discounts at almost every restaurant in the complex Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. At Finnegan’s Wake, Gordon Biersch, and Miso Fusion you will get 10 percent off any take out meal.
Kids can eat even free! Buffalo Wild Wings, Mellow Mushroom, Dawson’s market and a few more dining establishments offer a free meal to children with an adult meal.
Additionally, don’t miss Dawson’s Farmers Market, which will be thriving every Wednesday from 11am-2pm. The market is filled with favorite local vendors and serves all-natural burgers, hot dogs, and weekly specialties. It is the perfect place to take the kids for lunch during a full day of activities and fun! The market will be open until October 28th.
3. Meadowside Nature Center
The center offers a hands-on nature experience for all families. You will get to hike through the center’s various trails and come face to face with bald eagles, hawks, owls, and many more animals! You will also get to learn what lives were like for Maryland pioneers and Indian families.
This is a unique event where you will venture into a long house, endure the struggle of hand making your own meals, and even dress up in old rustic clothing.
There is an awesome Nature Play Place for the kids. It is meant to inspire and empower creativity. Just be prepared for the kids to get a bit dirty with their main tools being dirt, sand, and sticks. The space is designed to be completely safe with a hollow log for climbing through, a teepee to play in, and a nature touch table. Just sit back, relax, and watch their imaginations unfold.
