4 Tricks to Get the Most Out of Your Furniture

Ways to Increase Your Furniture’s Usage

Other than putting those cloaks over every piece of furniture in the house to preserve them, there are better ways to keep them looking clean. Accidents happen, and at some point down the line your furniture will get dirtied up. There are cleaning tricks and ways to get the most out of your furniture without having to buy something new every few years. With these tricks, you will have no problem in making your furniture look and work like new.

#1 Refurbish Your Wooden Chairs

Wooden chairs tend to get nicks and scuff marks in them all the time. Especially if you’ve had them for a long time, the wear-and-tear will definitely start to catch up. There is an easy fix, however. All it takes is a little shoe polish. Apply the polish to the scuff marks with a brush, and then blow dry the area once it’s done. The dents and scuffs have now disappeared! If you want to take it a step further, you can use a coating wax on the whole chair.

#2 Make Your Drawers Flow Smoothly

Drawers and cabinets that tend to be sticky or hard to open tend to get annoying quickly. Some people completely replace them, whereas others just accept their fate. But, there are ways in which you can fix these problems. Grab a bar of soap from the bathroom and apply it to the hinges and problem area to make it slide fluently. Although you may have to reapply it from time to time, it’s still much better than the alternative.

#3 Rebuild Cheap Furniture

At some point in our lives we’ve all bought extremely cheap pieces of furniture that never quite work like they’re supposed to. This may not be easy for some, but taking it apart and reassembling it with better hardware will make it work much better. This will help you locate what part of the furniture is going wrong and which parts need a little upgrade. After the rebuilding process is finished, it should work like a charm.

#4 Use DIY Cleaning Agents for Cushions

Over time, your couches or anything with a plush cushion will get dirtied up over time either from spills, accidents, stains, or just your natural wear and tear. You can go out and buy cleaning products that may or may not work, or you can make your own DIY agent. All you need to do is mix 1 cup vinegar, ¼ cup mild soap, and a gallon of water. Put it on a brush, and rub the area of the stain. Let it sit for 15 minutes and looks good as new.
